Who

Number 23 is a British Tapas Restaurant where you can enjoy delicious, unique, high quality food, in a relaxed and friendly environment. We are a family run business. My sister Ceri and I opened Number 23 in February 2013, and it's been a great success.

Where

It's in a building with amazing character, dating back to the 1500's. You will find us tucked away at the end of a medieval courtyard on historic George Street, in the heart of St Albans.

What

Our menu caters for every taste and occasion... from the delicate taste sensations to the hearty homemade, we're sure there’ll be loads of dishes you'll love. We’ve brought many new members of staff into the Number 23 family over the short time we’ve been open. We want to make sure that every customer is treated like one of the family too, and everyone leaves with a smile on their face.

Why

At Number 23 we know what counts: excellent food, great service and a friendly atmosphere - they're all here and so much more. Come and find us. You'll be glad you did. See you soon - Glyn

From TripAdvisor

“Delicious British Tapas, great value” It's difficult to chose from the menu as everything is so delicious! Our particular favourites are the salt and pepper squid, pulled pork and the crackling. We went on a busy Saturday night but the service was great. We had one of the more expensive bottles of wine, and ate until we were stuffed. The bill was still less than you would pay for a 2 course meal in a decent restaurant in St Albans. And despite its being a chilly evening, the restaurant wasn't cold.......We will be back!

“Great independent British tapas restaurant” I am not one for large portions of food so tapas are my ideal way to dine - and in addition you can combine lots of different tastes. I admit that I was sceptical of the concept of British tapas but this restaurant won me over with its skilful combination of baby beetroot and goat cheese, its risotto balls, the flavourful meatballs. The service was very friendly and the building was picturesque. And thankfully it escapes the bland anonymity of all the chain restaurants that line up along British high streets. Will definitely plan to go there again soon.

“Hidden little gem” This is a beautifully hidden restaurant which has a certain charm about it. The staff are friendly and make you feel so confortable. The food is amazing! Try the duck scotch eggs! I love this place and can't wait to go back!

Reviews

"Charmed us with thoughtful and helpful advice" We've now been to Number 23 on three evenings, and a lunch too, and on each occasion had great meals in a great atmosphere. The restaurant's owner, Glyn, is very welcoming and attentive. He remembers that you've been before and that you've come back like an old friend, and in our case, we brought with us old friends. Glyn is rightly proud of his restaurant and the team that runs it: but find out for yourself. His lovely sister, Cerian, charmed us with her thoughtful and helpful advice about the menu, testing what we had previously enjoyed and suggesting new items that Chef had created. We were being an awkward bunch, with fussy eaters, vegetarians, and timid stick-in-the-muds amongst our gang. Nothing disappointed; everything delicious. With more than a score of different Tapas to choose from, some traditional, some exotic, and everything in between, everyone was able to feast. Nothing went to waste even though we were all full. Good wines (and good company) made for a grand night out. St Albans has some great restaurants it’s true, but few can match the quality and value for money that Number 23 has consistently done for me. I can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough!
